Role Playing Games

I used to play a few role playing games when I was a child. I wasn’t into the whole Magic card game or Dungeons and Dragons type of games. Me and my brother did spend a little bit of money on War Hammer but stop because it was too much of a hassle to paint the little guys and we didn’t even know how to play the game. Taking a trip to Sci-Fi City was very interesting. I had not been in a comic book store for years so coming back to it was kind of like a breath of fresh air.

The game I first played was called Lunch Money. The game was basically about you being a small girl who beats up on other girls and the object of the game is to knock out every player. The game gives you certain attacks to work with like roundhouse kicks, punches to the face, pulling hair and things of that nature. You have 15 points of life starting out and you can gain back health if you have the card for it. The game was pretty cool because their wasn’t any rules on who you could attack. You could just gang up on one player and beat the crap out of him until they were unconscienous. This happened to me first round because someone dealt me a card that basically stunned me for 2 rounds and then I just got ganged up one which ended my playing time. The next round I took vengeance on the person who gave me the final blow that knocked me out the first round. The whole time I didn’t care if I won or not I just wanted this kid to lose. I egged on everyone to knock him out and I was successful in doing so. It ended up being me and this other kid fighting to win and I think he won by two points or something. All in all I thought the game was pretty fun, even if you’re not into role playing games its still a bad ass card game in my opinion.

Another game I played their was this guillotine game about the French Revolution where you collected heads of high officials and royalty, yet avoid collecting martyrs. The whole concept seemed gruesome but the graphics seemed to give out a more child like vibe. I could easily see small children playing this game. Basically their where 3 rounds which went pretty fast and I liked that because you never got tired of playing. You tired to collect people with high points and whoever had the most points after 3 rounds of chopping of heads won.

Each round started off with ten people in line to get there head chopped off. In your hand you were given 5 cards which allowed you to alter the line depending on what the card said. This made the game interesting because you could screw over other people in the process of trying to gain points. I thought it was a pretty fun game to play just because it was easily to learn and it didn’t take long to set up.

I think role playing games are a good way to determine good video games. If a role playing game can be fun with just cards and imagination than the structure for that game must be good. If I designed video games I would look for fun card games to base my game off of. I think role playing games help expand your creativity. The good thing about them is you don’t need a Five hundred dollar system to play them.
