Museums
The museum I visited was in Stuart, Florida.
Its located right on the beach and is called the Elliot Museum.
It’s fairly small yet it has a lot of rich local historical pieces along with some old cars which it’s known for.
I had visited the museum a few times when I was younger and their was always something new there in the exhibit area.
When you first walk in you are greeted by a couple
of tour guides who usually escort you through the museum if you want them to. Theirs also a little gift shop where you can
buy little trinkets or souvenirs. When you walk in the first thing you see to your right is a group of glass incased exhibits.
The first one was a small town with a train going around it. The detail put into the exhibit was extraordinary. The layout
of houses, buildings, and even gas stations was so unique you could look at it for well over a half an hour. The funny thing
about it was the exhibit wasn’t even that big, yet it still attracted the most attention from small children. That maybe why they put it at the front of the museum.
The next exhibit was a layout of a room from
the forties. It seemed very accurate and you felt like you were back in the forties. The lighting was almost perfect for bringing
out the certain items that needed to catch your eye. The items in the room were all very authentic especially the silverware
pots and pans. Nothing in that room was dated past 1945.
Their was a few other glass incased exhibits
but one other unique was a horse stable. The setup was perfect all it was missing was a horse. Apparently either someone donated
or they received some very old equipment that belonged in the horse stall. Their were some tools I have never seen used to
put on horse shoes. It sounds boring but if you’re into interesting conversation starters that exhibit would have been
perfect.
The main area
is where they put their monthly exhibits which had different themes. The one they had their had to do with native American
artifacts. Their was this decent sized wagon which was painted yet still very old. It sat in the middle and wasn’t too
exciting. They also had a Indian Chief head set which was quite interesting. It seemed fairly old and authentic and seem to
catch a lot of eyes because of its size. Another interesting piece was a cover wood shelter. It had under it a stuffed rattle snake and some Native American custom
made jeweler. The snake yet caught most of the attention of the children because it was stuffed in a manner where it looked
ready to strike.
The last part
of the museum was its old car collection which consisted of many vechiecls from the 40’s 50’s and 60’s.
The area they kept them in was a two story garage. They had a 1940 fire truck which seemed to be one of the prized possessions.
They also had a 1942 convertible ford. I’m not good on the makes or models but it looked pretty nice. It had a blue
and white trim. Another car that some other eyes were a 40’s muscle car it was restored and looks amazing.
All in all it
was a small a museum yet it had a lot of interesting pieces. The unique things you found there you may not see in any big
city museum in the country.
